Sildenafil is used to treat male sexual function problems (impotence or erectile dysfunction-ED). This medicine is not recommended for use in men with cardiovascular conditions (e.g. heart failure, previous heart attack or narrowing of the aorta). Sildenafil is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver or kidney problems or a family history of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Severe or ongoing liver or kidney problems should be addressed to the doctor as they may be factors leading to the use of Sildenafil. There is a possibility of serious underlying health problems that are not normally addressed in the doctor's clinical study.

Sildenafil is not recommended for use in patients with sickle cell disease (an hematological disorder that causes confusion and, in rare cases, bleeding) who have a blood disorders such as multiple myeloma (cancer of the blood cells), or leukaemia (a blood cells disorder that causes symptoms such as fever, swollen lymph nodes, swollen glands, generally poor blood cell function).

What is a generic drug?

The term "generic" refers to the active ingredient of a medicine or drug rather than to the advertised brand name under which the medicine is sold. It is a term referring to any drug marketed under its chemical name without advertising.

Pfizer made the originaltablet that is often referred to as the “blue pill”.The patent expired in 2013 which then allowed other pharmaceutical manufactures to make a generic version under the name of the active ingredient called Sildenafil. They are exactly the same medically and perform in the same way with the same side-effects.

As with most branded products, Viagra is sold at a higher price, therefore the generic tablets sold asare much cheaper.

What is the difference between generic and branded drugs?

Medically there is no difference between a generic medicine and the branded medicine, as they both have the same active ingredients to make them perform in the same way. They only differ in the “bulking” agents used to fill the tablet as the amount of active ingredient required, in this case Sildenafil, is very small. This makes the tablets bigger and easier to handle.

The main difference between generic andbranded named prescription medicines is cost with generics being much cheaper

Every pharmacy can choose what price they sell at, as there are no fixed prices. It will depend on what price the pharmacy can buy the drug from the wholesaler and the cost of their own overheads. They can they decide what mark-up they require and some pharmacies choose to sell some products at higher prices.

At Webmed pharmacy we aim to keep our prices as low as possible, without compromising the quality of service, as we arethe only online pharmacy to offercourier guaranteed next working day as standard

We offer a very fast, confidential and discreet service that isby the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

What is the best brand of sildenafil?

When you choose to buy any prescription medication online, you must first of check that the pharmacy is with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

All pharmacies using a UK General Medical Council, to prescribe their medicines will also be registered with the UK government Agency the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Those online pharmacies who are not registered with the CQC either use pharmacist prescribers or foreign doctors.

You will then know and have the confidence that all the brands being offered are genuine and will work in the same way. All the pharmaceutical companies are inspected by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to ensure they manufacturer the drugs to the same quality standard. This means that the key ingredient that is referred to as the “active” ingredient is exactly the same in all brands.

The other inactive ingredients that make up the bulk of the tablet are called “excipients” and can vary.

For those people who are allergic to or have an intolerance to lactose, then the is ideal for you as it is lactose free. You can check the additional excipients on the patient information leaflet supplied with your tablets.

Although medically all the generic tablets are identical, they may look different as they can vary in colour, shape and size due to the varying excipients.

There are a number of companies now manufacturing which include Accord, Ajanta, Dr Reddy’s, Mylan, Teva, Torrent and Zentiva. The Powerment is available without a prescription from the Erectile Dysfunction Patient Co. at www.erectile dysfunction.org.uk. Erectile dysfunction is the condition when a man is unable to get and maintain an erection firm enough for sex to occur.

In a recent article, The Journal of Clinical Psychology & Psychological Science, the authors of a study in which they studied a sample of patients with a type 2 diabetes who had been referred for treatment with Viagra (sildenafil) compared to a group of healthy volunteers, found that men were significantly more likely to have had side effects of erectile dysfunction (ED) in patients with diabetes (p < 0.001) and had a reduced quality of life in comparison to patients with diabetes (p < 0.001).

They write: “In this study, we tested the hypothesis that the effects of sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, could be attenuated by patients with diabetes and compared with healthy volunteers in an in which the placebo was given to the patients.”

The study, which was conducted at a national hospital in Copenhagen, Denmark, involved participants with type 2 diabetes who were prescribed sildenafil, an erectile dysfunction (ED) medication, for a period of 4 weeks. Participants were all instructed to take a pill of 25 milligrams of sildenafil or placebo. After completing the study, participants received an anonymous questionnaire (i.e. questionnaire) which was used to assess their side effects, or to receive information on their personal health, physical and social life. Participants were asked to rate their ability to perform tasks that required the penile organ, such as writing. In the group receiving Viagra, participants rated their ability to perform these tasks on a visual analogue scale (1=”very difficult”; 2=”very good”).

The results showed that in patients with diabetes, sildenafil, a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor, had no effect on the ability to perform tasks requiring the penile organ. In patients with diabetes, sildenafil had no effect on the ability to write, but had an effect on the ability to perform other tasks requiring the penile organ, such as writing.

“These results, while promising, are of concern in light of the increasing research linking sildenafil to ED,” says Dr. David A. Kowalski, senior author of the study. “These results suggest that the effects of sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, on erectile function may not be dose-related.”

Kowalski notes that the results of the study were “limited” to patients with type 2 diabetes. “Therefore, the findings should be interpreted with some caution, especially because of the small number of patients who received sildenafil.”

A study published in the journal Journal of Sexual Medicine and Obstetrics, revealed that sildenafil had no effect on erectile function in women, but it did have a beneficial effect on the erectile response in men, in which the drug reduced the frequency and severity of sexual intercourse in women. In fact, the study was conducted at a medical center in Denmark, where a large number of participants were treated for ED, and in which researchers recruited a total of 4,050 participants.

“We were surprised to find that sildenafil was not effective in patients with diabetes,” says Dr. Kowalski.
